Relaxation Weekend

I'm so ready for the weekend!  I got an email a couple days ago from my sister-in-law; asking if anyone wanted to join her at the beach this weekend.  After receiving permission from my husband, all relaxing systems are a go!  So, tomorrow you will find me asleep on the beach.  Along with the "beach" theme, we're celebrating my brother's union with his wife, Renee tomorrow night at Shephard's....on the beach.  Then after church on Sunday, I will most likely take Gavin to the beach to meet up with my sister-in-law and my nephew.  Please no rain.....

Snake Update

About an hour ago, I received a video text from my dad.  He video taped what the snake looked like after he split it in two and smashed in its head.  (Gagging)  It was quite nasty but the thought of that poisonous snake being dead relieved my fears.  Now my worries lay on the thought of what if it had babies somewhere!

Before I found out this news, I actually went home on my lunchbreak like I always do.  I was hesitant of getting out of my car but somehow I managed.  As I was walking up to the door, I never realized how many little creatures make rustling noises in the grass, bushes and trees.  My heart was racing until I made it through the front door!  Sad, I know.  Then after eating lunch, I sprinted to my car in hopes of that snake not jumping out at me.

All of this to say, I have a new-found fear of snakes.

1 Year Check Up

Yesterday was Gavin's 1 year check up.  I'll just reitterate what the doctor had said, "He's perfect in every way."  And I couldn't agree more.  Gavin now weighs 22 pounds 12 ounces and is 30" tall.  He's right along in the 50th percentile for his age.  The doctor got to see Gavin's chompers, got to see him walk and even got to hear his high-pitched screams!  Yes, Gavin screamed and we didn't even get to the shots yet.  Even though I was a little embarrassed, it warmed my heart that I was the only one who could calm him down.  After talking about Gavin's developments and safety tips to be concerned about, it was time to administer the shots.  There were three.  He did well just laying on the table, playing with my cell phone then quickly the nurse shot him.  Literally, five seconds later (count it out), it hit him, "THAT HURT!"  Can we say "delayed reaction"?  The other two shots didn't even matter because Gavin was so focused on the first one.  So we left (without a lollipop) and got him a toy at Target for being such a good boy.

This morning, I left the house in fear.  Hold on to your seats because this is a scary story.  Every morning, my cat, Ava, wants to go out on the back porch usually to just chill and to be out in nature.  So I let her out around 6:45 this morning.  I went back to bed and 30 minutes later got up and ready for work.  Gavin walked out to the living room to play with his toys.  Mema was on the back porch as well just enjoying her morning coffee.  Then she came inside to play with Gavin as Eric and I were still getting ready.  Eric packed his car and was about to grab Gavin to leave then we heard Mema yelling, "Is that a snake?!  There's a snake!  There's a snake on the back porch!"  As we ran toward the back porch, we saw it slithering around.  She got a closer look, "It's a coral snake!!!  It's poisonous!!!  Get Ava!!!"  I could tell Eric was trying to think of the rhyme "Red on yellow, kills a fellow; red on black, friend of Jack."  Ava was just laying there probably thinking how crazy we are.  So we opened the door and Eric saved my baby girl.  The rest of what happened was kinda blurry because I was so focused on Gavin not getting close to the door.  But I remember Mema running back and forth to the garage with a broom and then a shovel.  I'm laughing now because it seems like a movie.  How did it end?  Eric was able to get the snake out of the back porch with the broom.  Then he tried to kill it with the shovel but the snake got too deep into the brush that he couldn't see it anymore.  We're not sure how the snake got into the back porch, we're not sure how long it was there till we saw it, and we're not sure where it is now.  From now on, Ava is gonna have to get used to being just an indoor cat.  So when I say I left the house in fear, I literally thought that snakes were chasing me down the driveway and some were even waiting for me in my car!  Why couldn't it be a "friend of Jack"?!

First Birthday

Yesterday was Gavin's First Birthday Party and boy was it crazy!  I was really worried about Gavin being cranky because he didn't nap at all yesterday.  Thankfully, he was distracted by the huge group of people that he had no reason to be cranky.  I was expecting 56 people to show up and the total was 49.  Gavin loved his cake and yes, that was his very first time eating sweets.  He did great!  He was given a buttload of presents including money towards his college education!  We are SO thankful for all the gifts and just the thoughtfulness of our family and friends.  Sadly, I didn't pick up a camera even though the batteries were charged and the memory card was empty.  But there will be pictures and videos to be revealed soon.  Stay tuned....

Book Completed

I just completed a book that took me a year to read.  That may sound surprising unless you hear the title.  Your Baby's First Year: Week by Week by Glade Curtis and Judith Schuler.  It was such a great guide to make sure that my baby was right on track with his developments.  Every Monday, I got excited to read what may or may not happen to Gavin that week.  Sometimes Gavin was way ahead of the chapter then there were times when he didn't reach that certain skill as yet.  For the most part, he was (and is) where he should be.

This weekend is going to be great!  Tomorrow will probably be more busy than on Sunday, which is Gavin's party.  We have to shop for the majority of the party items tomorrow and then we will be cleaning for the rest of the day/night!  We're looking forward to seeing all of our friends and family on Sunday.  It's going to be an amazing party with Gavin as the center of attention!  I just hope he actually likes being the center of attention.  I guess we'll find out....

I'll talk to you on Monday!  Have a great weekend!

Transitions

This week has definitely been a week of transitions for the Koroknay family.

First of all, Gavin starting drinking cow's milk this past Monday.  So far, so good.  No allergic reactions.  No fussiness.  Still sleeping through the night.

Secondly, we took Gavin to the gym with us for the first time yesterday after work.  That didn't go so well.  The rules for the gym's daycare is that the child be at least a year old and walking.  Gavin is almost one and he can walk so we thought we'd give it a go.  Twenty-five minutes into our work-out, I get called to the daycare area.  The girl was holding Gavin the whole time because he would cry if she tried putting him down.  Apparently, they don't accept crying kids (it was in the rules).  Also, she had 13 kids to watch by herself and couldn't do it while holding Gavin.  Later she tells us that the maximum capacity is 9 kids.  It was a very disappointing situation to say the least but we're gonna give it another try.  If it happens again then we're going to talk to the manager about getting out of our contract.  Eric said it well, "The daycare should not depict when we can or cannot go to the gym."

Back to our transitions....thirdly, we are able to turn our car seats so they're facing foward!  This is HUGE because in my car, the rear-facing carseat left NO leg room for my front-seat passenger.  I'm SO excited!!!

Last but not least, the short-sale house situation has reached the next step.  The seller's lender FINALLY accepted our offer and now they're checking the seller's inability to pay their mortgage.  It has been 3 months to get to this point and I think we're about to taste victory very soon!  We were able to see the house on Monday (since it has been 3 months) and I think I loved it more now than when I first saw it.  This time it was vacant and very dirty, however, I got really excited when thinking about cleaning it all up and making it our own.

This Sunday is Gavin's BIG Birthday Party.  When I say BIG, I mean BIG!  I'll tell you why after the party. :)  I just hope he cooperates with the Smash Cake.  Can't believe I have a 1-year old!  Do you remember when he was born?

Ain't What She Used To Be....

Since starting up softball again, I've realized that I'm not as athletic as I used to be.  I'm not talking about when I was in high school because I wasn't athletic then....at all!  I'm talking about maybe 1 1/2 years ago....before I got pregnant!

Before we got married, I was involved in Boot Camps, working out every day (if not, every other day), loved running, playing tennis and softball....all because I wanted to get into shape for our wedding.  My wish was granted!  I felt great on our wedding day (except for a tiny portion of back fat).  And just to speed through the process, got pregnant, gained 40 pounds, had a baby and lost all the weight and now I've been sitting at my pre-pregnancy weight for about 7 months now.

HOWEVER, not everything went back to its usual self!  Even though I weigh the same, the legs got thicker, the belly is a little flabbier, and the arms a tad bit jigglier.  This, I have not been content with.  My excuse is that I have not devoted enough, if any, time to focus on those problem areas....and this is where I throw myself a pity party.  But not this month!  The great news is that when Gavin turns 1 year old, I can take him to the gym with me!  In the meantime, I will be walking every day; exercizing to workout videos 3 times a week; eating better thanks to my personal chef of a husband; but most importantly having discipline, self-control and a "I can do it" attitude!

P.S.  The real key into losing weight is to wear clothes that are too big for you.  You'll start getting compliments like crazy! :)

New Play Area

Gavin found a new play area in our room....
Thankfully the basket was full of clean clothes!

What do you think he was looking at?

He was mesmerized by the Disney Channel!

Family Day

Not only was today our first Saturday in over a month to spend as a family, but it was also Gavin's first trip to the Florida Aquarium!  I would like to say that he LOVED looking at all the sealife, birds and coral.  But honestly, I have no clue what he was thinking.  From the pictures and videos I captured, Gavin just didn't seem impressed whatsoever.  Eric, on the other hand, was probably in aquarium heaven!  It was definitely a nice family outing.  We bought him a stuffed animal (clown fish to be exact) and I have a feeling Eric is going to make Gavin carry it wherever he goes!  He is determined to make fish tanks and growing coral some of Gavin's hobbies when he gets older.  I find that endearing. :)

Love this room!

These next few pictures I'd like to label as "Pointing Pictures"
